Early Times Report
budgam, Dec 6: A Sarpanch against whom several charges of corruption and criminal offences have already been registered by various agencies has now shot a letter through his father, a deputy sarpanch to an ordinary villager asking him to repay an amount of 1.75 lacs which was spent on constructing a wall (bund) near the house of the said villager some months ago under MG NREGA . The Sarpanch and his father have been threatening the said villager to vote for National Conference or face the consequences.
Talking to Early Times Mohammad Shafi Dar son of Abdul Gani Dar a resident of Kutabal Jeddan village in Budgam district said few days ago some people came to his house in late hours and threatened him of dire consequences if he did not vote for National Conference candidate. " It was around 10 p.m that four people closely associated with our local Sarpanch and his father came to my house and manhandled me and threatened me with death if I did not vote for NC . These men handed over a letter written in Urdu to me which clearly states that I was provided a retaining (bund) wall near my house for which an amount of Rs 175950 had been spent and the bund was provided to me on the condition that I will vote for NC. Now I do not agree with the policies and programmes of NC , I am being told to repay the said amount. Why shall I pay the money back ? It is public money and the Sarpanch or Omar Abdullah have no claims whatsoever on it."
Another villager, Mushtaq Ahmad said the matter has been brought into the notice of Election Commission. "The police must also act, " he said.
Pertinent to mention that BDO of Chadoora block had recovered an amount of Rs 5.53 lakhs of swindled money from the said Sarpanch few years ago and many local dailies of state including Early Times had carried that news.
The Director Rural Development Kashmir on the instructions of concerned minister did not dissolve the Kutabal Jeddan Panchayat after a team from Ministry of Rural Development Government of India found severe irregularities in the distribution of money under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) and MG NREGA.
