As poll campaigns heat up, high emotions took ugly turn, 4 injured

Rajouri, Dec 6: As the campaigning by the political workers in favor of their candidates is picking speed day by day some incidents of violence and campaigning by the government employees are also pouring in and in such an incident four political workers were reportedly injured here today.
'Four persons were hospitalized today when some supporters of Congress and National Conference had physical scuffle over the campaign by the government officials in favor of their respective candidates, police sources said.
They said, "The incident took place at village Manyal under the jurisdiction of Thanamndi police station and those who were admitted in the district hospital have been identified as Shaheeda Begum, Mohd Bashir, Sarfraz Kha and Mushtaq Ahmed." Sources said that on the intervening night of December 5/6 some supporters of National Conference (NC), including reportedly a Junior Engineer of PWD department, an employee of Power Development Department (PDD) and NC activists including Gulfaiz, Khan Mohd, Azaz, Shazad etc had some tiff with the supporters of Congress candidate Shabir Khan at village Manyal.
Both the parties used sharp edged weapons and lathis during physical scuffle in which four persons received injuries. At about 10.30 am today the injured along with their family members visited Community Helath Center (CHC) at Thanamndi and reportedly over delay in the treatment they had another physical scuffle with the doctors on duty including lady doctor. "The agitated political workers also used un-parliamentary languages against the doctors and also thrashed the para-medical staff, sources said, adding, "following which doctors and hospital staff went on strike to stage protest demanding action against guilty."
They said Dr Iqbal Malik , concerned BMO rushed to Thanamndi from Darhal who held talks with the hospital staff and requested them to resume their duties. Following BMO's direction an official letter from Zonal Medical Office (ZMO) vide ZMO/T.M/272-82 was sent to Thanamandi Police Station seeking action against those who manhandled the doctors and para-medical staff.
The official communication has identified the accused namely as Khalid Riaz (teacher), Mushtaq Ahmed, Sarfraz Ahmed (both class VI in Education Deptt), Mushtaq Ahmed (PHE), Gulazar Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed all residents of Azmatabad and Manyal. When contacted Nazir Ahmed, SHO Thanamandi said that he is out of station but assured legal action will be taken against those identified by the hospital staff.
