Jammu, Dec 6: Police today booked three persons, including a policeman, his relative and a teenage boy in connection with a shootout at Channi Himat here last night in which a labourer was killed and a police constable sustained injuries. Police have lodged FIR No 101/2014 u/s 302, 307, 353 ,332, 109 RPC, 3/25 Arms Act against the trio identified as Ashfaq, 14, son of Abdul Ganie of Arwaish Reasi, the policeman Badarudin son of Jamaldin of Gulatta Poonch and his brother in law Nowshad Ahmed of Channi Himmat. Police sources said the policeman Badarudin, PSO of a Congress leader Zulfikar Ali, used to visit his sister's residence at Channi Himmat regularly and during his frequent visits he trained the domestic help at his sister's residence Ashfaq how to handle AK-47. Sources said last night Ashfaq entered into an argument with Badarudin over some trivial issue and decamped with his service riffle. Soon after the incident Badruddin informed the police following which police launched a massive manhunt to trace the teenage boy. During their hunt for the boy, police came to know that he had boarded an auto from Narwal towards Trikuta Nagar and they started chasing him. In the meantime, the auto driver noticed the boy was carrying a rifle inside his jacket and he became suspicious. He drove him towards Marble Market and jumped out of the three wheeler and ran away taking advantage of the darkness. As Ashfaq did not know driving he too came out of the auto but on realizing that police were chasing him, he ran towards a Labour colony and took refuge in a jhuggi. On finding a stranger intruding into their jhuggi the children started crying. He (Ashfaq) first asked them to keep quiet, but as they did not listen, he opened fire injuring their father Lamgua, 50, who had come here in search of job from Chatterpur in Madhya Pradesh. He also opened fire on the police party chasing him, injuring a constable Riyaz Ahmed, PSO of SHO Channi Himmat police station. The accused shot two bursts at police party as the rifle was loaded with 28 rounds. After firing a few bullets, the boy threw the rifle and tried to escape through a nearby nallah. However, he was arrested by police after a hot chase. The injured labourer was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed. Meanwhile, residents of the Marble Market held protest against the incidenton Saturday. They said gunshots created panic in the area and they were terrified.
