Authorities busy with elections, people suffer for transport | | | Shakeel A Khan
Early Times Report
BUDGAM, Dec 7: While the authorities seem absorbed in elections, the people suffer for basic amenities. With all the commercial vehicles hired by the political parties for the election campaigning, the commuters continue to suffer for want of lift. One can see the huge rush of the passengers waiting at different bus stops throughout the valley and throughout the day. Morning and evening hours are even tougher for the commuters. People find it very difficult to make their to and fro journeys on account of the lack of transport facilities and the authorities seem to be little bothered about the sufferings of the people. At around 6 pm, there were hundreds of passengers at Budgam main desperately waiting for the lift to make it to their homes. These passengers were bound for different areas such as Beerwa, Magam, Jawalapora, Bemina. The chances for them to reach to their destinations were dim since the darkness had completely taken a firm grip. "To hell with the authorities and the election, I rue the authorities for there are no means of travel for the passengers like me. My parents will remain concerned till they don't see me. But I ask the authorities how can I make it to my home," Said Bashir Ahmad, who had to reach Beerwa, many miles from Budgam town. Bashir said that the dearth of transport facilities was always there but it worsened ever since the dates for the five phases of assembly elections were announced. As per Bashir, the transporters have also forgotten the fact that the elections are nothing but a merry for some days only and they must bear it in mind their business success lies with the public not with the election rallies. At Mirgind also, there were hundreds of passengers waiting for a miracle to happen at around quarter past six and they were stretching out their hands to every moving vehicle. In the meantime the road show of the NC, comprising of hundreds of vehicles, commercial as well as private (though empty inside) passed through this area leaving the passengers high and dry. "Just see for yourself that every passenger vehicle of the area has been hired by the party and there is no hope for the people like me to reach the destinations today. Thank God, it is the last day of campaigning in our district and it is hoped that the things will be normal from 10th December," said Muddasir Ahmad from Bemina, who was waiting for a lift. |
