ECI uploads illegible information of contesting candidates from Vijaypur | Negligence or deliberate attempt to hamper public scrutiny? | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 7: The affidavits filed in 2008 by candidates who contested from Vijaypur constituency are not readable making it very difficult to draw a comparison of the documents. A question arises. Is it negligence or a deliberate attempt to help the candidates. The official website of Chief Election Officer, Jammu and Kashmir depicts affidavits of 19 contesting candidates from Vijaypur constituency but the information is totally unreadable, restricting the general public from drawing any comparison of candidates. Sources alleged that National Conference candidate Surjeet Singh Slathia was among the candidates who are once again in the fray from Vijaypur assembly segment. "There can be a large scale variation in the property statement of Slathia as he was a Minister for many years and allegations were also leveled against him", sources said, adding that the uploading of illegible information, would only help the incumbent MLA, Surjeet Singh Slathia to hide information from general public. Out of nineteen candidates who had contested assembly elections of 2008, five are once again in the fray from Vijaypur constituency to contest this time. These candidates are Bahadur Singh Choudhary of Samajwadi Party, Chander Parkash Ganga of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Rakesh Kumar Pangotra of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Surjeet Singh Slathia of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Manjeet Singh, who had contested elections of 2008 as candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and this time is contesting from Indian National Congress candidate. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deep Singh, while criticizing the ECI authorities, said that on one hand huge funds have been exhausted in the entire election exercise and authorities were also claiming tall of transparency but on practical grounds, everything was hoax. "How can a common citizen draw comparison between the property statements of politicians whose assets have recorded nearly 500 percent hike", he rued. |
