MENDHAR, Dec 7 : A high alert was sounded all along the Line of Control (LoC) after troops foiled an infiltration bid by a group of five to six militants from Nangi Tekri area of Mendhar sub-sector here late last night.
Five to six militants were spotted close to the LoC on Pak side at about 8 pm. To provide them cover, the Pak army opened fire from their forward post in Batal sector, targeting B M Post near Nangi Tekri, according to official sources.The troops retaliated, foiling the infiltration bid by the militants. The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides continued for over four hours, the sources added.
Quoting intelligence inputs, sources said several militants were waiting on the Pak side to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to carry out suicide attacks and trigger IED (improvised explosive device) blasts to disrupt the ongoing electoral process in the state. In view of these reports, a high alert had been sounded all along the LoC, sources said. |
