JAMMU, Dec 7: A housewife, who was allegedly tortured by her in-laws for bringing less dowry, has been struggling for life at the government medical college and hospital (GMCH) here.
Payal (28) of Anand Nagar, Talab Tillo, was married to Deepak Gupta of Mohalla Paharian four to five years back.
Her elder brother Rahul alleged that Deepak, his parents and sisters used to harass her for having brought less dowry. "Though we fulfilled many of their demands, they did not stop harass her," he alleged.
"Friday last, her in-laws tried to kill her by forcibly giving her some poisonous substance. After we came to know about the incident, we rushed to their house at Mohalla Paharian and shifted her to GMCH against their will," Rahul alleged.
He said while Deepak had been apprehended by police, his other family members, including parents, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, were absconding.The concerned police were not available for comments.
