Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 7: The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha, on Sunday revealed that security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir have killed a larger number of terrorists this year, as compared to 2013, pegging the total number of incendiaries killed at close to one hundred.
"So far, in 2014, a total of 145 terrorists have been neutralized, while the number of terrorists killed is 98. The army was also involved in two more [cases]... a total of hundred terrorists have been killed. In counter infiltration the number of terrorists eliminated has also been substantially higher, with 51 killed," Lt. Gen. Saha told mediapersons here. "However, in 2013, a total of 89 terrorists were neutralized and 62 terrorists were killed," he added.
Jammu and Kashmir, which is in the midst of its five-phase state assembly elections, on Friday faced four terror attacks, which were aimed at undermining the legitimacy of the democratic process. Referring to the heroic role played by security personnel who laid down their lives in the Friday's militant attack, Lt. Gen. Saha said that the martyred soldiers protected innocent civilians from being hurt in the attacks.
"It is their brave fight that ensured that the attack on civilian targets was avoided and any harm to innocent civilians particularly in this period during the elections was avoided," he stated. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the army for its selfless sacrifice and patriotic spirit on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day.
"Our Armed forces have always risen to occasion and performed every duty with patriotic spirit. Their selfless dedication is outstanding," he tweeted.
