NSS Volunteers to create awareness about drug addiction, social evils

Kathua, Dec 29: On the Fourth day of the on going Seven Days NSS special camp at Govindsar, a massive cleanileness drive was launched today by NSS volunteers. The drive was aimed to create awareness about 'Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan' and to encourage people to contribute in maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. This apart NSS volunteers started door-to-door garbage collection in the village during which they collected door-to-door garbage from the residents of these two wards and dumped the same at one place from where it could be collected by garbage truck of municipal committee. After the cleanliness drive a group of NSS Volunteers interacted with the villagers by door to door campaign & a nukkad natak. Villagers' response was very positive & they took an oath to minimize the use of alcohol/drugs, fight against other society evils and support us to volunteer for a better society. The basic theme of "Nukaad Natak" was to create the awareness among people about social evils like alcohol intake, drug abuse ,female feticide in which they are getting directly or indirectly, willingly or unwillingly involved
Addressing the gathering, Programme officer Dr. Ram Singh, urged on the need to work together to eliminate various social evils in society. Dr. Rachna asserted such plays to be a regular feature in camp schedule.
NSS Programme Officer Dr. Suraya Partap Singh praised the volunteers for their sincere efforts and said that such programmes should more frequently be conducted to raise awareness among the common people particularly the youth to change the mindset.During the post lunch session the volunteers of 'liberty' group presented a colorful cultural programme including a patriotic song, a bhangra, and a skit. The day long activities ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rachna followed by National Anthem.
