Defeated BJP candidates make beeline in Delhi | Seek personal favours, top brass miffed | | Fazal Khan
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 29: Soon after facing a humiliating defeat in the recent Assembly polls across Kashmir, BJP candidates are making beeline in New Delhi to seek personal favours from the party high command much to the displeasure of the top leaders. Sources told Early Times that many BJP candidates, who contested the recent Assembly polls unsuccessfully from different areas of Kashmir, are camping in New Delhi to get some benefit for fighting the recent polls on the party ticket. "Defeated candidates not even waiting for the next government to take over the reins of the state has annoyed the party top brass," said a source. He said that some of the candidates are demanding that they should be given MLC seat while a few are demanding plum positions if BJP becomes the part of the next coalition in the state. The "impatient approach" of the defeated BJP candidates has annoyed the party leaders in New Delhi. "A few candidates were told clearly that nothing can be done instantly and they should realize that this is not the time to discuss personal favors as party is making all possible efforts to form the next government in the state," said a source. He said that despite being snubbed by the top party leaders a few candidates are adamant on their demands and are refusing to leave the national capital. "We were told that even if we lose the elections we will be properly accommodated. It seems now party is trying to take a U-turn and we apprehend that we will be dumped," said a BJP candidate who lost the recent elections. He claimed that most candidates were reluctant to contest on BJP tickets in Kashmir as they had appraised the party high command about BJP having no base in Kashmir. "We were forced to contest the elections and were assured all possible help," he added. Pertinently, out of 35 BJP candidates accept one all lost their security deposit and managed a few hundred thousand votes all across Kashmir. A BJP leader from Kashmir who didn't contest the recent Assembly elections claimed that "Party didn't force anyone to take part in the polls. All the candidates came forward voluntarily. From all the constituencies in Kashmir we had to choose one candidate from more than twenty. No one was promised any favours. They are lying," the leader added. He said that the contesting candidates gave "wrong feedback" to the party high command and assured the top leaders they can pull out their seats in their respective areas as they enjoy a support of large chunk of voters. "BJP announced its Mission 44 plus only after being assured by the candidates from Jammu and Kashmir about their potential and calibre. Wrong feedback provided by the BJP candidates has embarrassed the BJP top brass," he said. "There is no doubt about the fact that they are our own men but they have to be reasonable and patient. We are trying our best to form the government in JK after it is done they can approach the party high command and put forth their demands. They have to wait till the appropriate time rather than jumping the gun." |
