Army, Kathua police launch massive search operation in Hiranagar to nab suspected militants | | | Sanjay Pathak

Kathua, Jan 9: Amidst regular firing by Pakistan an input by a woman today sent Army and Kathua police into a tizzy. Army and police launched a massive search operation in Hiranagar area of Kathua district to trace three to four suspected militants, which the woman had sighted in an agricultural field. A woman Anita Kumari of Haria Chak had seen the suspected ultras in a field this morning at 6.30 am and she had informed her husband Deepak Raj, said police officials. The woman's husband had relayed the information to Kathua police, which immediately swung into action and launched a search operation in Haria Chak, forest nursery adjoining Haria Chak, Ujh River and Shaap Nullah, said officials. They further said that when the search operation was going on, they heard three gunshots in Ladwal village near to Haria Chak at 8.35 am. Ujh River and other Nullahs enter Pakistan from Hiranagar area from where Pak militants entered in the past. "The Army and the SOG also joined Kathua police in the operation but we found nothing," they said, adding that the Army soldiers with their sniffer dogs and weapons in the area. The searches were on till reports last came in. It may be mentioned here that in September 2013 three Pak militants, after crossing Shaap Nullah, had emerged at Haria Chak from where they had hijacked a load carrier. They had carried out two attacks-on Hiranagar police station and then camp of 16 Cavalry of the Army and had killed 10 people. Kathua SSP, Pawan Parihar said that the operation is on. "In the present circumstances when Pakistan is firing at us and there are attempts of infiltration, we cannot take anything lightly," he said. Kathua DC, Shahid Iqbal said that we launched search operations but so far have found nothing. "There were reports of three gun shots this morning also," he said. Meanwhile, Pakistan fired small arms on four BSF posts along the International Border in adjoining Samba district last night and this morning. BSF gave equal reply to the Pakistani firing. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported. The gun duel ended around 5 am today. "Rangers had fired from their New Pak Post, Razab Shaheed, Dhandar and Chakbhura posts on Suchetgarh, Regal, Chalyari and 6 R posts," said police officials. |
