Only one District Hospital in Jammu has separate Ophthalmic OT against 10 in Kashmir | Govt's anti-Jammu policies don't spare health sector | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 9: Discriminatory and anti Jammu policies of the state governments have not been confined to developmental issues alone; even the crucial health sector has some glaring examples of such prejudices pursued by successive governments. It is apparent from the fact that only one district hospital in Jammu has the facility of separate operation theatre (OT) for ophthalmic surgeries whereas in Kashmir region there are 10 district hospitals with same facility. In the year 2011-12, there was one district hospital having separate OT in Jammu division and same remained the figure for the year 2012-13 and 2013-14, while figure for Kashmir division was 10 for the same period. Similarly, there was no vision center in Jammu division for the eye patients for the year 2011-12, one for the year 2012-13 and the figure was 5 for the year 2014-15 whereas the same figures for Kashmir region for the year 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 was 67, 74 and 76 respectively which clearly authenticated the fact that successive rulers brushed aside the Jammu region while formulating plans for health department. Further the Kashmir division has 49 Sub District Hospital (SDH) supported with Para-Medics Ophthalmic Assistants (PMOA) training schools whereas the figure is zero for the Jammu division. Owing to the want of infrastructure and facilities for the eye patients, 8027 cataract surgeries were performed in Jammu region in the year 2011-12 in the government hospitals, institute funded by various NGOs and Private hospitals whereas the figure is 11, 151 for the Kashmir region. For the year 2012-13, the figure of cataract surgeries done in Jammu division was 9,983 whereas for the same time period the figure for the Kashmir division was 12,042. In the year 2013-14, 2950 cataract surgeries were performed in Jammu division against 5435 surgeries performed in Kashmir division. |
