In absence of Govt, Transport Deptt fails to revise fares | Diesel goes cheaper but fares remain unchanged | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 9: In spite of diesel going cheaper the transport department has failed to revise the fares of commercial vehicles. Sunny Kumar a student of Jammu University said that the transport department has no control on private transport operators and has failed to reduce the fares of commercial vehicles in favour of common people who up down daily. "The price of diesel has gone down by Rs. 10 in the last six months but it has given no relief to the common man of the state. When the prices of diesel increases the transport officials raise the fare on the demand of private transporter operators but never taken decision to reduce the fares when the diesel prices are cut down", Kumar rued. He expressed surprise over failure of the SRTC authorities to provide similar relief to the people. It seems that the higher officials of Transport Department made a nexus with private transport operators, he said. Som Sharma a vegetable vender said that if the transport fares are reduced, the price of vegetables will automatically go down. Criticizing the department he said it may annoy the transporters, but I think the government should revise the fares so that the common people can also get some benefit of the cut in the prices of diesel. When contacted Managing Director JK SRTC, J S Tandon said that he didn't authorize to revise the fare, deals only Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir. Repeated calls to Transport Commissioner J&K Dilshad Khan didn't respond. |
