JAMMU, Jan 9: Gandhi Global Family (GGF) in a simple but an impressive function commemorated return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa. While speaking on the occasion, S P Varma, Vice-President, Gandhi Global Family, spoke about hundred years ago on this day Mahatma Gandhi returned from South Africa on a ship named, Pongola to Mumbai. He said, Gandhiji's return galvanized the Indian freedom movement, armed with novel ideas of non-violence and civil disobedience. He also focused on the four tenets of Mahatma Gandhi: a free, united India with Hindus, Muslims allied; the acceptance of the doctrine of nonviolence; in India's villages, the revival of cottage industries, especially of spinning and the production of handwoven cloth (khaddar) to provide employment and the abolition of untouchbility. These ideas were widely and vigorously espoused across the country. He appealed to the volunteers to work as ambassador of Mahatma Gandhi to work towards the unfinished agenda disclosed by Mahatma hundred years ago for its fulfillment to achieve the goal of peace progress and prosperity of every citizen of the country. |
