Jammu, Feb 5: Government Degree College (GDC) Bhaderwah clinched the maiden title trophy in the inter-college cricket tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) on the campus ground, here today. In the final, GDC Bhaderwah defeated GDC Ramnagar, rather easily. Bhaderwah boys made it a comprehensive eight wickets victory achieving the easy target that too sparing 8.2 overs of their innings. Earlier, batting first, GDC Ramangar set a small target of 80 runs for six wickets in the given 20 overs. Rohit Sharma (16), Tilak Raj (14) and Jeevan Lal (13) were the main scorers. From GDC Bhaderwah, Zahid took two wickets. Burhan, Mubashar, Subash and Deepak shared apiece each. In reply, GDC Bhaderwah attained the goal in just 11.4 overs making 82 runs for the loss of two wickets. Babar Hussain played fine innings of 36 runs while Deepak contributed 19 runs. Parveen Singh was lone wicket taker from Ramnagar. The final officiated by the technical penal comprising Saleem-ur-Rehman, Vijay Dogra, Raman Kumar and Raj Kumar as umpires while Manu Khajuria was scorer. In the title clash and prize distribution function, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sunil Sharma was chief guest while Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau presided. An IPS officer, the chief guest complimented the cricketers from far off district of Bhaderwah and appreciated their zeal and spirit. He also showered praise on the management of the college for providing a chance to the boys to excel in the game. Earlier, Prof Bhau welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a brief note of the event. The valedictory function was also graced by Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bhaderwah, Daleep Singh, who encouraged the boys. Prominent among those present were Principal of GDC Bhaderwah, Dr R K Raina, Dr Iqbal Baba, Mudassir Rasool Dar, Suresh Kumar, Nitesh Kumar, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Dr Brij Baloria, GAgan Kumar, Ravish Vaid, Jai Bharat, PD Singh, Gautam Sharma and Vikesh Kumar. |
