Political affiliations, loyalties earned him 'unceremonious' exit | Goswami's episode gives jitters to Congress …. | | ET Report JAMMU, Feb 5: Unceremonious exit of Anil Goswami from country's highest post of bureaucracy has shook the entire bureaucratic set up and the Babus in particular who push themselves up on the ladder of hierarchy with political support. But more than anything, the episode has given jitters to Congress which finds itself in an embarrassing position, no matter their frights are wrapped in hollow and baseless criticism against Narender Modi led NDA government. That Anil Goswami was close to Congress is a known fact and his proximity with Ghulam Nabi Azad is too well known to mention again, It was this closeness which fetched him coveted post of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister during Azad's tenure in the state. And it was on account of his loyalties to Congress and top ranking leaders in New Delhi too that he was elevated to the prestigious post of Union Home Secretary during UPA government's tenure in 2013. Anil Goswami is a household name in the list of top bureaucrats in J&K. He served the state also in various capacities of which his tenure with Shri Mata Vaisho Devi Shrine Board was longest again on account of unexplained political connections and high level contacts. This assignment also remained embroiled in controversies for one or the other reason yet he managed to push himself ahead of all others, beyond J&K as well, no matter for some years on deputation period. This is also too well known a fact that Anil Goswami tried to push the career of his advocate wife Neeru Goswami out of turn in trying to appoint her as a Judge in Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Even in capacity of a top bureaucrat , this move however did not click as one of the sitting Supreme Court judges had expressed objection to proposed appointment and had boldly written to Chief Justice that he was not convinced about professional capabilities of Neeru Goswami. The SC Judge had cited reasons for his objection to the appointment on the ground that Anil Goswami's wife had lack of competence and that she was not capable of handling civil and criminal matters which is why she was quite unsuitable for occupying the position of a judge. It had later come to light to that a couple of SC judges had confided there were attempts from various quarters to influence the appointment, more so pressure from a cabinet minister in UPA government to consider Goswami's wife for appointment favourably. While Congress is 'superficially' spattering criticism against Prime Minister Narender Modi for sacking senior bureaucrat, the latter is actually lauded for what is being seen as a quick move in replacing all those who despite being on top positions like Goswami were not trust worthy because of deep loyalties to Congress regime. Continuance of such officers would not only put impediments in government works but also inflict damage to the assignments, more than a proclaimed enemy. |
