Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 5: Governor's direction to the GAD to ensure compliance of SRO 164 is likely to drop a bombshell on many a government officers who have been occupying key honorary positions in several sports associations for years without seeking mandatory permission from the Government.
Taking cognizance of media reports that indicated at the blatant violation of SRO 164 which makes it mandatory for government officers/officials to seek permission from Government before accepting positions in sports associations, Governor on Thursday directed the General Administration Department to ensure strict compliance of the SRO.
Sources disclose that many Senior Police and Civil officers of the state administration have been occupying top positions in sports associations of the state while they have violated SRO 164, they have also been violating guidelines of the State Sports Council by holding on to these positions for multiple terms. The eminent government officers who have been representing sports associations include Financial Commissioner, Planning, BR Sharma, (Mountaineering Association), ADGP Dilbag Singh (J&K Rifle Association and Distt Badminton Association), ADGP SM Sahai, (Hockey Association), Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology Parvaiz Malik (J&K Rugby Association), Commissioner JMC Kiran Wattal, (Gymnastics Association), IGP JP Singh, (Fistball association), ADGP Naveen Aggarwal, (Speed Ball Association), Excise Inspector Ravinder Singh (Athletics Association), SP Dushyant Sharma, (Wrestling Association), Inspector Kuldeep Handu (Wushu Association), Conservator forests Jameel Thakur. (J&K Football Association), IGP HK Lohia, (Wushu Association), Ravinder Singh (KAS) Cycling Association, Farooq Shah, (Winter Games Association), DySP Sudershan Mehta (Cricket Association) and several others.
It is pertinent to mention here that an RTI query has been filed in the J&K State Sports Council, seeking names of all the government servants who are in different sports associations in violation of SRO 164. "It is a pity that Council has recognized many such associations whose principal office bearers are Government servants and it has not objected to elections of these government servants in the associations" said the RTI applicant.
Many of these officers have even got elected to the national federations by virtue of their positions in the state associations.
