Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 5 : The BJP has accused the Transport commissioner and Regional transport officers (RTO's) of Jammu and Kashmir of failure to do justice to the common people after cut in the fuel prices.
Talking to Early Times, BJP state secretary, Munish Sharma said that the federal government is trying its best to provide relief to the common people and while people in rest of the country were reaping the benefits of reduction in diesel and petrol prices since august last year, officials concerned of state Transport department of Jammu and Kashmir have completely failed so far to handle the system and provide benefits to common masses. Transport Commissioner, all RTO's and other officials concerned are not capable to run the system, for some unknown reasons they made common masses to suffer.
He said that BJP is monitoring every activity of all these and other officials of the state who according to him are working like Ministers of previous National and Congress coalition government would work, however BJP is committed to report the same with party high command and take necessary action against these officials for their incompetency. Pertinently since November 6.2014 Early Times is highlighting the issue of unchanged fare menu when sixth reduction in diesel, petrol prices was announced by Central government and since then carried a series of stories on the issue, however instead of assurances from concerned authorities of the traffic Department, authorities are yet to issue new fare schedule for transporters. The fresh price cut in this regard was made by oil companies on November 30, 2014 with price cut in petrol by 91 paise a litre and diesel by 84 paise per litre after recent price of October 31, 2014 with Rs 2.41 a litre price cut on petrol and Rs 2.25 on diesel across the country.
While the cumulative reduction in petrol price has been Rs 9.36 per litre, the rate of diesel was decreased twice in October and four times till today, which include price cut of Rs 3.37 and Rs 2.41, but surprisingly, passenger vehicle operators have not reduced their fares.
Central government had on October 18 freed diesel prices from its control, giving freedom to oil marketing companies to adjust rates in line with cost and on that day, rates were cut by Rs 3.37 per litre, which was the first reduction in price of diesel in the last over five years as the previous decline dates back to January 2009. Like oil Prices, the price of non-subsidized cooking gas (LPG) was cut by Rs 18.5 to Rs 865 per 14.2-kg cylinder and since August, this was the fourth reduction in rate of non-subsidized LPG which consumers buy after exhausting their quota of sub-market priced domestic cooking gas. Despite these cuts in price, there was no relief to people buying non subsidized LPG cylinders due to their alleged black marketing and official apathy. Pertinently despite assurances of Transport commissioner, Dilshad Khan to solve the matter and protests of people against concerned authorities, common masses continues to suffer.
