Jammu, Feb 5: The long 65 years of independence has made no difference in the life of several villages of Sub Division Dudu Basantgarh, which are still without electricity and mocking at the claims of all round development. Moti Lal a resident of village Balota Upper said that in Sub Division Dudu Basantgarh has total 34 villages, the Power Development Department (PDD) has provided electricity facilities to 26 villages till date. Peoples of other villages including Balote upper, Mong, Joffer, GS Banj, Chapper, Jakhed, Latti, loudhra are still living in dark. Few months back some villages have electrified under the schemes Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Joyti Yojna and Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyut Yojna but surprising still there is no electricity supply. He further said that Jammu and Kashmir, state is among the highest providers of electricity which transfers it to other neighboring states for revenue, but its people are being forced to live in dark. Most of the villages is located more than 30 kilometers from the sub division Dudu Basantgarh and has around 300 households in each village, have no basic facility like connectivity of roads and health care facilities. "Lack of basic facilities in such areas, mostly parents facing difficulty when their children studying outside are not willing to return', Moti Lal said, adding that the villages have no basic facilities, even having population of around 12 thousand have been still struggling for power connection. "Our villagers are still living in stone age and the tall claims of development have no mean for us", Ram Kumar another resident of village Mong said, adding that rather than power supply, even the villagers were also crying for schools, primary health centers, roads and other basic amenities. He further said that if anyone fell ill, they have to cover around 15 kilometers on foot to reach nearby Primary Health Centre, which was at Basantgarh, moreover, the High School which was also several kilometers from village.
Many times peoples of said villages requested the higher authorities of PDD department to provide electricity facilities, at that time they assured us and said within days the proposal would be completed but at ground realities department has nothing done. " If anyone visit again in department office and enquired about the proposal, the department officials said file is completed and forwarded to higher authorities, after sanctioned of higher authorities the work would be started but years lapse the work yet not started", Ram Kumar said. Sham Lal Sharma, Assistant Executive Engineer, Power Development Department, Basantgarh admitted and said that yet department has not provided 100 percent electricity facilities to each villages.
