1 yr after inauguration, Ghagwal Trauma Centre still dysfunctional | Paralysed health deptt functioning depriving accident victims of timely treatment | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 5: Though the J&K Health department has been adjudged as best in improvement of health sector, ground reality is quite different and exposes the tall claims of the previous government headed by Omar Abdullah. Even after one year of its inauguration by ex-health minister Shabir Ahmad Khan, the trauma centre at Ghagwal in district Samba is still non-functional. Sources said the trauma centre was inaugurated by Khan in presence of former MP Lal Singh, MLA Durga Das, MLC Subash Gupta and Director Health B S Pathania. During inauguration, the minister had promised to the gathering that the coalition government would soon provide all necessary equipments and manpower for the trauma centre to run smoothly but to utter dismay of the people, it was still dysfunctional for want of specialists, paramedical staff and life saving equipments. Sources said not only the Ghagwal trauma centre but other trauma centres in the state were also facing the government apathy. "This shows that majority of people's representatives are not sensitive towards the problems of the common masses. They are interested more in new constructions due to their alleged vested interests. No specialist doctor has so far been posted in the trauma centre. The posts of paramedical staff have also been lying vacant, virtually making the trauma centre non-functional. Chief Medical Officer, Samba, dr Kartar Chand said that owing to the lack of equipments and specialist doctors, the trauma center was not functioning. "As soon as Jammu Medical Corporation and Health Department provide the equipments and man power, the trauma centre would be made functional", he said. |
