Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 25: Minutes after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti ordered a probe in the recruitment 'scandal' at the Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB), Syed Aroot Madni tendered his resignation from the post of Executive Officer at the Board.
Selection of Aroot, son of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice President, Mohammad Sartaj Madni as the Executive Officer in KVIB generated lot of heat in the state with opposition training guns on the government. Principal opposition party National Conference said that selection of Aroot is unfair in violation of norms and regulations.
Madni is the maternal uncle of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and his son's appointment is bound to give some sleepless nights to the CM as well. Allegations have come to the fore that most of the people figuring in the final list issued by KVIB are either children of close associates of PDP leaders or have direct patronage from the corridors of powers.
In his resignation letter to the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, KVIB, Jammu & Kashmir, Madni's son has said that since his appointment has led to controversy he is demitting the office at the earliest. He said that although he was selected along with many others on different posts his selection was un-necessarily dragged into controversy adding that political connotation was attached to the same.
Aroot said that he is convinced that his selection for the post of Executive Officer was done merely on the basis of merit and performance in the examination as well as interview. He said that his father's name is being un-necessarily dragged in the entire issue. He added that he is resigning as he does not want the other selected persons to suffer for no fault of his and theirs as well.
Interestingly, the KVIB is headed by Peerzada Mansoor Hussain who is also the General Secretary of PDP. Mansoor is the Vice-Chairman of KVIB. His nephew, Peer Kashif Hussain figures at serial number 2 at the waiting list with roll number 101830. Mansoor and his father Peer Mohammad Hussain are PDP veterans with both enjoying close rapport with the chief minister.
It would be in place to mention here that Madni was the MLA Devsar between 2008 and 2014. He lost in 2014 assembly election to Mohammad Amin Bhat of Congress. Mansoor was the MLA Shangus in the previous assembly. He lost to Gulzar Ahmad Wani of Indian National Congress in the 2014 assembly election.
In the meantime, an official spokesman said that Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today directed holding of a high level inquiry into the procedural inadequacies in the selection process of the Jammu & Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB), the results of which were declared a couple of days ago.
The spokesman said that the inquiry would be held by a committee headed by the Chief Secretary and it has been asked to furnish its report in a short time.
