Police swoop on Wild Life employees during protest demonstration, arrest scores | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Police swooped on the employees of Department of Wild Life here and arrested scores of them while they were carrying a protest demonstration in support of their demands. Reports said that scores of employees assembled at the Press Enclave here and carried out a protest demonstration in support of their demands. The protest was led by Tariq Ahmad Sofi, President Jammu Kashmir Wild Life Employees & Workers Union (JKWLEWU). Senior leader of Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) Manzoor Ahmad Pampori also joined the protesting employees. The agitating employees carried out strong protest demonstration in support of their demands and raised slogans as well. The protesting employees were demanding that the temporary employees should be paid according to the revised wages as announced by the state government. The protesting employees were demanding for the reorganization of the department and timely conduct of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for sanctioning as well as according promotion to the deserving employees. The agitated employees took a dig at the recently announced SRO 520 according to which services of daily wagers are going to be regularized. The protesters said that discrepancies have crept up in the list of daily wagers and same need to be removed at the earliest so that only genuine daily wagers are regularized. They also demanded that there should be enhancement in the two and half day salary of the employees of the department. As the employees tried to move towards the main road the police personnel already present there swooped on them and arrested scores of them. The arrested employees were shifted to the nearby police station and were released only after many hours. The agitating employees vowed to carry out the agitation as long as the demands are not met by the government. The President of the Union said that since the charter of demands has already been submitted to the state government the people at helm should fulfill the same at the earliest. He warned of rigorous agitation in case the demands are not met at the earliest. He said that future course of action would be chalked out soon and the government would be responsible for consequences thereof. |
