State govt's 'double standards exposed' | Imposes taxes on pilgrims visiting state, welcomes Centre's decision to slash airfares | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: The Jammu and Kashmir government has welcomed the decision of the Central government to slash airfare for pilgrims. In fact it's a welcome decision but someone needs to ask the PDP-BJP government why it imposes tax on pilgrims visiting the state. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The J&K government should take a cue from the Central government and waive off the taxes which it imposes on the pilgrims visiting J&K." He said, "During the past three years scores of delegations have met the people at the helm with a request that taxes imposed on pilgrims visiting the state should be waived off. Every time the delegations were assured that it would be done but till date none of the taxes have been waived off and taxes continues." A businessman said, "Pilgrims from different parts of the country visit famous religious across the state. But these pilgrims have to pay taxes at each and every point." He said, "If Centre can slash the airfares to help the pilgrims why cannot J&K government waive off the taxes it imposes on the pilgrims visiting J&K." The businessman said that making J&K a tax free zone for pilgrims would be a goodwill gesture and everyone would appreciate it. "J&K government needs to go beyond rhetoric rather than hiding behind the excuses," he said. |
