PDP Ministers, leaders disappoint party workers
'Panchayat polls were deferred to save ruling party from defeat'
2/28/2018 11:39:48 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Feb 28: The ground level workers of ruling Peoples Democratic Party are disappointed over them being ignored by the party leaders and ministers. Many believe that Panchayat polls were deferred to save PDP from facing the defeat.
A PDP worker from Kralpora area in central Kashmir wishing not to be named said, "We put our lives at stake to ensure the victory of a local PDP leader in central Kashmir in 2014. We did all we could do to make him win the seat."
He said, "The PDP leader won the seat and later on went on to become a Minister. We were of the opinion that after winning the elections he would come forward and help the people but he didn't even return to say thanks to us."
The PDP worker said that since the day his party has come into power the concerned MLAs have ignored the grass root workers. "We are unable to face the people whom we asked to vote for our party leaders," he added.
He said, "It's unfortunate that PDP leaders have forgotten the promises they had made to the people during the election campaign. Even if we visit the residences of the concerned MLAs to seek help from them we are sent back. And we are often told that sahib is busy."
Another PDP worker from Batmaloo constituency said, "Our MLA has gone into hiding since the day PDP has come into power. We sometimes see him on TV attending official functions and nothing more."
He said, "People have lost hope on us and quite often tell us that there is no difference between the National Conference and the PDP leaders. After assuming power all politicians are same in the sail boat."
Another PDP worker said, "It's unfortunate that PDP leaders like their predecessors are busy in employing their kith and kin and are least interested in helping the people who ensured that they come into power. They (politicians) are reaping the fruits of power and are least interested in the issues being faced by the people and their own workers."
He said, "PDP top leaders know it very well that their party has lost ground in the Valley. Despite being snubbed by the PDP top brass on many occasions they (PDP leaders) have not made any attempt to reach out to the common masses ."
The PDP worker said, "Deferring Panchayat polls was a ploy to save the party (PDP) from facing humiliation as their candidates would have faced the defeat. Security threat was just a pretext to defer the elections."
He said, "On the other hand PDP MLAs don't want grass root workers to get empowered as they don't want to share the power with anyone."
