Agriculture Deptt fools farmers in the name of digitalisation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: The department of agriculture while boasting of digitalization has "taken another step towards direct benefit transfer." A serious question arises. To whom is the department selling digitalization? The `beneficiaries' happen to be poor farmers who do not know anything about digitalization. And for the information of the department of agriculture digitalization remains a distant dream in India. Jammu Kashmir is too backward and corrupt (as per surveys held by NGOs) to allow digitalization and on-line monitoring of sale and purchase of fertilizers. Further, the authorities snap the internet frequently in the name of security. In such a scenario, how can farmers benefit from such a scheme. There are hundreds of villages where the farmers are craving for power. Hundreds of villages are awaiting electrification. And to add insult to the bruised farmers, the advertisement making the above claim has been published in English. Experts have ridiculed the advertisement. According to them, the concerned department should have launched a mufti-media campaign and that too in languages spoken and understood by the farmers of the state. According to the advertisement, the sale of fertilizers is mandatory through ` point of sale' (POS). The experts believe that this will add to the woes of the farmers and result in black-marketing. |
