Following reports of poor upkeep, GMC&H restricts media entry to Animal House
2/28/2018 11:36:48 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 28: At a time when government is emphasizing transparency and accountability in governance in public offices and institution, the GMC administration has turned dictatorial and imposed restrictions on media from visiting the Animal House - where experimental animals kept allegedly in worst condition.
For last few years, all is not well in the GMC Jammu as management has turned dictator and has attempted to run the administration according to its whims and fancies rather than the laid norms. Pertinently, few months ago, senior faculty members' entry at Auditorium was restricted by the incumbent management. After receiving information that the experimental animals were kept in the hospital in poor condition, ET correspondent tried to visit the area, but his entry was restrained by the administration, making it amply clear that norms were flouted in the upkeep of these animals.
When, caretaker of the house was asked about the matter, he replied that Media persons' entry was been banned by the in-charge of the Pharmacology Dr. Brij Mohan Gupta. At same time, the caretaker called veterinary doctor and she also restricted the entry inside the house.
When contacted, Member Secretary of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, GMC Jammu Dr Brij Mohan Gupta said "I am on Leave" and terminated the call. The official alleged that the GMC Jammu and House in-charge were least bothered about the upkeep of the experimental animals. GMC Jammu also made temporary arrangements to feeding the animals, are being used for experimentation in educational and research of the institution. "Violating the guidelines of the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) as well as Animal Welfare Board of Indiahas become habit of the GMC authorities," official also alleged. Neither, the administration is obeying the rules nor providing timely food to the animals.
