Jammu, Feb 28: The 6 KM Road stretch from Girinager to Bandarkoot in Kishtwar District considered a high accidental prone area awaits completion for the past 20 years. The road continues to claim lives and one more youth identified ad as Mohammad Asif son of Abdul Satar resident of Saterwajen Palmar died after his vehicle Wagen-R in which he was travelling meet with an accident near Bhandarkoot. This is the 2nd accident in last two months in which innocent lives were lost.
Earlier on new years day 31-12-2017, two youths identified as 22 year old Adil Freed Hajam son of Gul Mohammad Hajam resident of Akhyarabad Kishtwar and 28 year old Mohammad Ayoob Butt
son of Abdul Lateef Butt
resident of Bhatpura Gundna of Doda District lost their lives on the same road.
As per the details available with Early Times, the deceased who lost his life in today's accident was on its way from home to Kishtwar when he lost his control over the ill fated vehicle as a result of which it skids of the road and role down into the gorge.
As soon as the accident took place, the locals and police rush to the spot and retrieve the deceased person from the debris of the ill fated vehicle and shifted him to District Hospital Kishtwar where he was declared as dead.
The without number vehicle is belong to Bashir Ahmed Wani of Siraz Doda. Police has Register the case and started the investigation.
As per the locals, the work on this road stretch was started in mid 90,s and first maintain by state R&B department and then the road was handed over to GREF who has been assigned to develop the road as a part of Kishtwar - Chatroo - Anantnag - Srinagar National Highway, but like R&B the GREF too fail to develop the road stretch. The sources said that after spending crores of Rupees on this 6 KM Road stretch, the GREF termed the road stretch as non fit for traffic worthy as well as for up-gradation worth since the road is full of blind curves with huge gorge on the road towards river Chenab and proposed the alternative Road stretch that will bypass the existing Road stretch of around 5 KM.
The work on alternative Road stretch was accordingly started but the same has yet to be completed even after nearly 10 years despite spending crores on the same again.
After failure of GREF authorities, the government handed over this road to National Highway Development Corporation of India some two years ago, but still nothing has been done to upgrade or expedite the existing Road stretch as a result of which it has become a death trap for commuters.
The people called upon the government to tale immediate measures to prevent any further loss of human lives.
