All is not well in PDP as Andrabi replaces Bukhari as Treasurer
2/28/2018 11:39:56 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 28: Even as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has nominated Naeem Akhter Andrabi as the new Treasurer of the party, the development has come at the cost of another senior party leader and minister Syed Altaf Bukhari.
On February 26, the PDP issued a handout that its president Mehbooba Mufti had nominated Andrabi as the party Treasurer. But with nomination of Andrabi, Bukhari has been relieved of the charge.
Bukhari who was seen as "veteran treasurer" of the party had been holding the portfolio since the party was founded over a decade ago with the Muftis having full faith in his working.
But the new development has "shaken" the party leadership. "Assigning this crucial charge to him (Andrabi) hints at a change in the viewpoint of the party leadership," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said that the PDP was trying to consolidate a new leadership close to the party high command in the wake of "trust deficit."
"In the last two years since the demise of Mufti sahib, the party has witnessed some bad bishops who want to destabilize the party for personal gains in league with some businessmen friends of theirs in Kashmir, so there's a sense of insecurity which needs to be overcome with reshuffle in the system," said PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the party looks ahead for more changes in the cadres "only to strengthen the leadership at the core."
"There have been credible inputs of north front alliance. Amid such inputs there's a need to be cautious," said a PDP leader.
Interestingly on the day when Mehooba nominated Akhter as the new treasurer, the PDP cancelled the basic membership of three party men hailing from Tral area of south Kashmir for their "anti-party" activities and "indiscipline".
As per a PDP spokesman they include Manzoor Ahmad Khan vice President Zone, Mohammad Shafi Shah Organizer Zone Tral and Peer Nisar Ahmad of Dadsara Tral.
Sources said PDP is keeping track of activities of each and every leader only to strengthen the party.
Despite repeated attempts, Bukhari or Andrabi couldn't be contacted for comments.
