2/28/2018 10:48:34 PM
Early TImes Report
Jammu Feb 28: In a major push towards long pending "Tawi River Front Development" project for development of Tawi River banks on the pattern of Sabarmati River in Gujarat, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has floated Rs 140 crore tender. As per the details available with Early Times, the JDA has worked hard to get the DPRs prepared and completed at the shortest possible time.
Speaking to Early Times, the Vice Chairman JDA Rajesh Kumar Shavan, disclosed that the project of River Tawi Front is broadly envisaged to cover 10 KM stretch upwards from 4th Tawi Bridge (Gole Gujral) upto Sainik School Nagrota and to begin with the consolidated DPR of 407 crores for 3.5 KM stretch up to Gujjar Nagar bridge was not prepared.
He added that due to technical reasons, the bifurcation of DPR took a reasonable time and now the DPR for protection work and conservation part have been separately prepared.
He said that JDA in a transparent manner under the supervision and guidance of its Chairman (Minister for Housing and Urban Development Department) engaged Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Limited who have developed the Sabarmati River Front and taking it as a success story, the JDA engaged the same consultants. He said that the consultants have carried out necessary investigations and feasibility study and prepared a comprehensive DPR for 3.5 KM and the same has been got vetted from National Institute of Hydrology Roorkie.
He stated that the team of JDA including engineering, finance and revenue wing have worked day and night to get the work completed for preparation of DPR and the tender document.
The Vice Chairman said that to ensure that the work gets kick started this year, on part tender of 1.5 km worth Rs. 140 crores has been floated.
The details of works to be carried out in this 1.5 KM stretch would include Work of construction of diaphragm wall, anchor slab, ghats i.e steps and/or ramps from lower level to river level retaining wall, steps and/or rams from upper level to lower level, special fill four guide bund, below anchor slab and behind retaining wall, guide bund with stones in wire crates from Bikram chowk bridge to downstream of forth Tawi bridge on north and south banks of river Tawi at Jammu state Jammu and Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention that the Jammu Development Authority is launching mega projects in Jammu. It has already completed Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Park and made the cafeteria and library functional. The park is likely to be dedicated to public in couple of days by CM and Deputy Chief Minister.
In addition, the work on multi-tier parking at Jammu Bus stand at the cost of Rs. 213 crores is being carried out day and night.
It is the only project in J&K where work is being carried by the executing agency in double shift. The Vice Chairman said that initially there were some bottlenecks of religious structures coming under the alignment together with shops/khokhas but that stand resolved and execution has gained momentum within last 8 months.
He said that "97" shopkeepers have already been shifted and the JDA is in the process to shift more shopkeepers within two to three days as the legal wrangles have been settled.
It was stated that the JDA is concentrating on the beautification and landscape of the city also and important park at Rajinder Nagar Colony has been completed in record time and dedicated to the public by the Deputy Chief Minister on the occasion of Lahori.
The Vice Chairman said that JDA will focus on strips and green strips to maintain them as per the expectation of public. He however sought cooperation of public to make the Jammu a Smart City in strict sense.
