Early Times Report

Anantnag, Mar 23: A court in Anantnag has farmed charges of murder against eight Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, including a Uttar Pradesh resident, for killing the Station House Officer (SHO) of Achabal and five policemen accompanying him in Achabal area in June last year.
Two of the accused including Uttar Pradesh resident Sandeep Kumar have been arrested while two others have been gunned down by the security forces in an encounter. Four among the six accused are active militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit and two others are working as OGWs.
All of them are still absconding, SSP Anantnag Mohammad Altaf Khan told Early Times. He said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed a detailed charge-sheet on February 5, 2018 against the accused in the case.
"The investigation had established that all eight LeT terrorists headed by Bashir Lashkari were involved in the attack," he said. Police said that the SIT had worked on fast track basis and cracked the case by arresting Sandeep Kumar who confessed and revealed the details during interrogation.
Sandeep was arrested from an encounter site on July 1, 2017, in which Bashir Lashkari along with Pakistani militant Abu Maz was killed. He and another accused Mohammad Ashraf Wani alias Molvi are currently in judicial custody at Anantnag.
Four active militants, named by the police in the case include Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, Mehrajuddin Bangroo alias Asif, Sahir Ahmad Makroo and Zeenat-ul-Islam, alias Zeenshah as the accused in the case. All of them are absconding.
Six cops including SHO of Achabal police station Feroz Ahmad Dar were killed when a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba militants led by slain commander Bashir Lashkari ambushed their vehicle near Tajwara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on June 16, 2017.
