'Embezzlement of Rs 19 lakh in MC Reasi'

Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 1: Funds worth Rs 19 lakhs were allegedly embezzled in Municipal Committee Reasi way back in 2011, following which an enquiry committee was set up by the local administration to investigate the matter but it has been seven years but the committee has failed to submit its report.
Sources told Early Times that an amount of Rs 25 lakh was realized by Municipal Committee Reasi on account of rent, taxes and premium during the period from 2010 to 2011. It was neither entered into the cash book nor deposited by the concerned wing into the official account of the Committee.
"On revelation of embezzlement by the concerned revenue collecting wing, the matter was referred by Municipal Committee Reasi to the District Administration Reasi following which a committee was constituted to probe the allegations and file report within fifteen days, but shockingly it has been years since the constitution of committee but the report was still awaited," they informed.
They further said that although an amount of Rs 6 lakh was recovered in 2013 and 2015 from the revenue wing, leaving behind Rs 19 lakh still to be recovered and delay in submission of report by the enquiry committee has resulted in non recovery of embezzled amount and action against defaulting officials. Despite being known for financial embezzlement, the Municipal Committee Reasi showed its helplessness in initiating action against the matter in absence of final report by the committee due to which the delinquent remained unpunished, they added.
