Modi Govt rejects Mehbooba's appeal for going soft on anti-militancy operations

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 1: The Modi government has apparently not heeded to the plea of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take alterative measure of dealing with the gun by going all out against the terrorists.
The major anti-terrorists operation carried out in South Kashmir in which 13 terrorists were killed was carried out days after CM appealed to the Modi government to have re-look at the 'hard' policies being pursued by the Modi government. According to the sources, the Home Ministry and the PMO had serious deliberations on the appeal of the CM and its repercussions on the state security.
"It was unanimously decided that while steps are underway to reach out to the people of the valley, anti-terrorists operations can't be halted as there is no other way to deal with the gun.
More so at a time in the valley when terrorists try to step up attacks. There can be no looking back on this policy," said the top official.
The sources said the top officials of the Modi government has asked the CM to spread out political activities and reach out to the people and make them understand the futility of the gun. "We have been holding talks and also taking on the terrorists. We are doing two prong activity. The CM should also pitch in her party should also does it bidding rather than putting the onus entirely on the Modi government," said the official.
According to the sources a meeting of the top officials will be held shortly in New Delhi which is most likely to be attended by the chief minister. The sources said it's in view of these developments that the CM had rushed to the N Delhi today and held meeting with the interlocutor amidst security forces having gunned down 13 terrorists.
"The Modi government has decided that while it's supportive of the CM as dharma of the alliance it also wants to do some hard talking especially on hot pursuits of the terrorists," said the sources.
