| Mafia extracts sand, bajri from river bed; authorities mum | | | MS Nazki

Poonch, Apr 2: Locals in sub division Mendhar have expressed their concern over the illegal extraction of sand and bajri and stones from the bed of Barsati nullahs by some unscurplous elements who seem to be hand in glove with the Geology and Minning department.
The river beds in Mendhar were being vandalised by sand mafia under the very nose of concerned department, alleged prominent locals of the area, adding no one from the government side seems to be bothered about it.
How much our generation has to pay for it cannot be expressed in words said another prominent citizen of the area.
We are axing our roots ourselves for petty gains he added.
We see frequently serpentine line of jcb machines tractor trollies in these river beds extracting heavy amount of sand, stones and bajri which is alarming and the time is not very far when we have to pay a heavy price for it said a Social activist Mushtaq Ahmed, adding we appeal to district development commissioner Poonch to direct the Geology and Mining department to go tough on the erring persons who are ruining these barsati nullahs just for the sake of monetary gains, he added. |
