Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 2: The Ambedkar Sena, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) along with Jammu Kashmir Reserved Categories Empowerment Alliance (JKRCEA) blocked roads and held protest demonstration against the dilution of SC/ST Act 1989 in Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Poonch and Chenab Valley and demanded Central Government to negate recent SC judgment in this regard by bringing a Parliamentary Resolution.
In Jammu, JKRCEA, Retired Employees Wing, Unemployed Youth, students, Women wing supported by All India Bhagat Mahasabha, Dalit Chetna Manch, Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Guru Nabha Dass Chartibale Trust, All J&K Balmiki Sabha, Gujjar Bakerwal JAC, AIBCU and others assembled at Ambedkar Chowk and held protest in favour of their demands as well as protesters blocked the roads.
President of Dalit Chetna Manch Sham Lal said that to stop caste based atrocities on SC/ST population, SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act was framed by previous government in 1989 to give protection to downtrodden section of the society against atrocities meted to them by upper caste people.
But as usual due to present central government's failure to protect basic essence of the Act in the supreme Court, in a judgment on march 20, the Court removed a provision for automatic arrests of those accused under the SC/ ST Act and made it mandatory for the police to conduct preliminary inquiries within seven dates of the a complaint before filling a First Information Report. He demanded that the government must come up with a parliamentary resolution to negate the sad biased judgment of the Apex Court.
Savitri Bai Phule Mahila Sangathan J&K Sunita Bangotra said that Babsaheb's Constitution gave respectable life, unfortunately atrocities on SC ST Women continued but they felt protected due to SC St prevention of Atrocities Act. But after deletion of clause related with direct arrest of culprit has given again made SC/ ST women insecure.
Ambedkar Sena Jammu and Kashmir held protest demonstration near Press Club Jammu in support of Bharat Band and alleged that atrocities done to SC St and OBC are increasing continuously in India and the central government i.e BJP has already started weakening it by using its power which may including Judiciary.
Sena demanded that this law should remain same in the country and implementation of this law in J&K should be made as soon as possible otherwise Ambedkar Sena will go on Dharna Pardarshan in all districts and Tehsil in the state.
