reasi, July 30: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) and Govt. Higher Secondary School (Boys), Reasi organised one day long training programme on "Commercial Agriculture and Retailing" for school children under the Rashtriya Madhaymic Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). Around 40 children from different villages of Reasi district enthuastically participated in the programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Associate Director Extension and I/C KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.RK Arora and the Principal of Govt. Higher Sec. School (Boys), Reasi Reasi, Sudarshan Kumar. Dr Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi inaugurated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. In the inaugural session he said the participants that there is need to divert from the subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture so that farmers can increase their income and employment. He further added that there is need to grab the opportunities to become the agri-entrepreneurs and by doing so one can enhance his income and employment. He elaborated the scientific farming of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, marigold, mushroom, beekeeping, dairy, poultry etc. and stressed on commercial farming. He further said that by forming Self Help Groups' (SHGs) various agri-entrepreneurships can be started in the rural areas by getting the micro-finance from the commercial banks. Emphasising on skill development he also elaborated on scientific cultivation of turmeric, ginger, lemon grass, palmarosa, gladiolus etc. cultivation as these crops are not affected by the monkeys. He further narrated that the cultivation of these crops can help to generate extra income and employment in the rural areas. He emphasised on commercial organic farming and added that hilly areas have immense potential in organic farming and producers can fetch more prices by growing the organic crops.
