CUJ organizes Seminar on 'Teacher Education: Emerging Issues, Challenges

JAMMU, Oct 5: A two days seminar on 'Teacher Education: Emerging Issues and Challenges' on was organized 4th and 5th October, 2018 by the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu under the aegis of Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission of Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) in the main campus of the University at Bagla (Rahya-Suchani), Dist. Samba (J&K). Delegates from different parts of the country participated in the said event and deliberations were held on various issues related to teacher education. The Chief Guest of the seminar Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Prof. Ashok Aima in his presidential address blessed all the participants and pointed out that due to latest interventions of technology the learning now a days is not confined to the four walls of the classrooms but has gone beyond. The great responsibility is now lying on the shoulders of teachers. The teachers have to amend their pedagogy to meet the current demands of teaching and learning.
The key note address was presented by Prof. S.C Panigrahi, M.S. University Baroda. In his address he raised many issues related to teacher education. He deliberated on the structure and curriculum of teacher education and pointed out that merely by expanding the duration of the courses is not going to bring qualitative changes in the discipline but can be done only by changing our attitude and seriousness towards it.
Two plenary sessions were conducted on the themes, 'Innovations and the New Pedagogical Interventions in Teacher Education' and 'Professional Development of Teachers and Teacher Educators'. Discussion on first themes was conducted by Prof. Ramesh Babu, RIE Bhopal and Prof. Lokesh K. Verma, Central University of Jammu whereas the second theme was elaborated by Prof. R.S. Khan, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, Prof. Anita Rastogi Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi and Prof. Lokesh K. Verma, Central University of Jammu.
