Out of power, BJP begs for votes on Jammu's name
Fate of pending projects exposes party's two-facedness

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 5: These days BJP leaders are vociferously seeking votes for Jammu's development. But when they were in power, they forgot the same development for more than three years as the status of major developmental projects speaks volumes about the hollowness of these claims of the BJP.
According to political campaigning of the BJP as well as audio messages circulated on FM radio channels, BJP leaders could be heard demanding votes for Jammu's development.
"What the state BJP leadership did while in power in three years bears ample testimonies of their utter failure and complete surrender before their alliance partner PDP. Whether it was the case of amnesty to stone pelters or unconditional ceasefire with militants", said a disgruntled BJP leader on the condition of anonymity.
He said that during cabinet meetings, the BJP leaders were always found either silent or unbothered about the fate of Jammu's developmental projects. There was no let up in corruption in government departments and allegations were frequently levelled against the BJP leaders for mass corruption and making fortunes.
Moreover, the development projects of Jammu including Mubarak Mandi Ropeway Project or Restoration of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Artificial Lake project, Jammu Sewerage Link Project or Patnitop Rope Way project were not finished.
"The Mubarak Mandi Ropeway project was inaugurated in the beginning of the year, but now the year is about to end and still there is no hope of any headway", sources said, adding that the trail run of the ropeway was only to pat their back by BJP leadership.
The Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex is another example of gross neglect shown by BJP towards the Dogra Heritage site. "Though in the election campaign message, BJP leaders have been saying 'Jai Jammu, Jai Dogra,' when they were in power they had not bothered about the Mubarak Mandi Heritage site which is an epitome of Dogra prestige", sources said, adding that even Cultural Ministry was with BJP but their leaders were only concerned about getting contracts for their relatives.
"Even a structure of vital importance was raised to ground under BJP Minister's directions", sources said, adding that the work on heritage site was slowed down rather than any improvement with no meetings of Governing body.
Similar is the fate of Jammu Sewerage Pipeline Project sanctioned in 2006 by Union government. "After lapse of 12 years, the project is still incomplete despite digging of every street, lane, by lane of Jammu city. "Still the project is incomplete and Sewerage Treatment Plant constructed at Bhagwati Nagar is still unutilized", sources said.
The Artificial Lake Project of Jammu city had jumped several deadlines in 2012-13, 14, 15, 16 but still in 2018 the project is far from completion. "Whenever the officials meet or they were asked their simple answer is the project is in the completion stage but most of these projects are in the completion stage since last few years but that completion date never reached", sources rued adding that BJP's claims and appeals of votes on the name of Jammu's development are far from reality and seems to be befooling the masses of Jammu once again.
