Udhampur, Oct 5: The Union government may have made Right to Education a fundamental right by bringing into force the Right To Education (RTE) Act of 2009, but government schools are lagging far behind in providing quality education.
In June last year, rains and thunderstorm fully damaged the roof of the Government Primary School Mohalla Tallain, Zone Ghordi Udhampur and also destroyed the pillars. One and a half year since then, the students are studying under the open sky.
Over 40 students huddle up in the room of the school watchman during inclement weather, which also serves as a kitchen and a cattle shed. The issue has been brought to the notice of the MLA and the concerned authorities repeatedly, but no one has cared to do anything.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Ravinder Kumar (IAS) when contacted said that the matter was in his notice. "The funds have been made available for the necessary repairs and the work shall start soon" he added.
