Early Times Report
BUDGAM, Oct 5: The residents of scores of village in Budgam district have accused that the officials of RDD for embezzling huge amount while executing MGNREGA works in the area from past many months.
According to sources that, there are scores of villages in Budgam district like Daharmuna, Galwanpora, Gotapora, Haripora, Nadigam, Reshipora, Ratnipora, Arath, Sabdan and other areas, where the contractors used sub standard material during the execution of MGNREGA from past several months.
"The contractors in connivance with the officials of RDD have drawn bills worth lakhs of rupees and against that they have paid hefty sum of money to the employees of RDD as commissions, where as the labours are suffering due to want of their hard earnings", said sources.
Sources said that, "though some small bridges and bunds were made, but at some locations the cracks in bunds have been found visible, and unfortunately no member of Central Employment Guarantee Council (CEGC) inspected the construction of NREGA works in these villages so for".
They alleged that the contract under NAREGA scheme was also allotted to some blue eyed persons, while well qualified persons are made to suffer from one department to another.
One can understand that, these well qualified youth remained untouched because they have failed to give bribe, otherwise the work would have been allotted to them, sources informed.
Sources further said that it is hardly believe that the work was allotted to the blue eyed persons who were either relative of local sarpanchs, panchs or some top officials of the RDD.
"Last year the bund was constructed in the adjoining areas of these villages but within a short span of two to three months, the department concerned repaired it at an estimated cost of rupees one lakh, where as huge amount was already drawn in the past months, said sources.
Sources while adding said that the money that was meant for the welfare of the society has been misused by some vested interests in the RDD and with the result there is a huge loss in the state exchequer, for which government should investigate the matter at the earliest.
