SRINAGAR, Aug 16: The singers and artists of the state have expressed displeasure over Padam Shri recommendations for Mehmeet Sayed. The document details in possession of early times reveal that daughter of a politician; Mehmeet Syed who has just three music albums in her name is preparing a ground for Padam Shri award in near future after the same is recommended to the Government of India by some senior politicians and officials of the state Government. According to details besides others, her father who is associated with state Congress has got recommendations from Governor N.N Vohra, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and National Conference legislator Mubarak Gul, former deputy commissioner of Srinagar Baseer Ahmad Khan, Secretary, J&K General Administration Department, and some other politicians of the Kashmir. One of the letters sent to Governor N.N Vohra by Mehmeet Syed reads: "At the start of twenties, I came out with three albums, which brought a musical revolution in the Valley," Mehmeet wrote to J&K Governor NN Vohra claiming the "magic" of her music has kept youth away from the streets. "It changed the mindset of youth, who started preferring music to violence. I faced militant threats and was compelled to migrate to Jammu as well."The documents reveal that former deputy commissioner of Srinagar Baseer Ahmad Khan while recommending her file for Padam Shri nomination also wrote a letter to Secretary, J&K General Administration Department mentioning that "Despite difficulties, Mehmeet has proved her talent. She has been brave and followed her passion with a clear mission of spreading the message of peace and love through folk music. "Taking a serious note of the recommendation letters compiled both by Mehmeet Syed and her father, senior most artists and singers of the state today while talking to ET said that they will not remain mum incase Padam Shri award is given to a singer who according to them does not deserve it all as many other veteran singers and artist of the state shaving experience in the field of singing and art are yet to receive any such award from the Government.Singers and artists said that many world renowned singers like Pandit Bajan Sopori, Kailash Mehra, Waheed Jeelani, Munir Mir, Rashid Hafiz, Kailash Mehra, Deelali Watal and others have carved out name and fame for Jammu and Kashmir in the field of singing, however most of them despite having 40 years of experience in the field are yet to be awarded by the Government of India while as a singer like Mehmeet Syed having just few albums in the kitty cannot be called for national level award on the bases of nepotism and favouritism. According to one noted singer and artist of the state, Pandit Bajan Sopori recommending people for a national award in the field of singing without having know how of basics of music is beyond his understanding and incase it happened singers like him won't tolerate such an injustice as there are many renowned and deserving people who cannot be sidelined when it comes appreciating their die hard work and anybody can not be allowed to receive such a prestigious award on the behest of political influence. "I have 40 years of experience at state, national and international level in singing which is equalant to the age of Mehmeet Syed and it is obvious that if I cannot get such an award how come it can be given to singer who came in the field few years back" said Kailash Mehra, another noted singer of the state. She said that Mehmeet Syed is actually yet to make her own contribution in the field of singing as she has so far sung the songs which were already sung by her, besides she is not known to the audience of the state in present times and an award of national level is not given for such a mini contribution unless it is not recommended by somebody from the political or administrative field. Reacting strongly some other noted Singers of the state including Waheed Jeelani while talking to ET said that Mehmeet who made her musical debut in 2004 in no way can sideline many noted singers like him and get an national award on recommendation bases, besides
