Govt constitutes 4 member team to douse Kishtwar fire | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 16: In a move aimed at dousing fire which was threatens to engulf entire state, Jammu and Kashmir government has deputed a four member high powered team to Kishtwar. Sources said that the team has been asked to visit sensitive areas in Kishtwar and hold talks with the representatives of both the communities. They added that the four member team includes PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammed Sagar and Transport minister Choudhary Mohammed Ramzan. Sources said that the decision to constitute high powered team was taken during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The team would reach Kishtwar early in the morning via a state helicopter. Thereafter, it would urge representatives of both the communities to come forward for talks, so that their voice is heard and appropriate action is taken against the accused. In a bid to ease out the situation and help in lifting of curfew from the entire town, the four member team is likely to make an effort to bring the two communities on the talking table. Though the task is cumbersome but the government has asked the team to use all possible ways and means of engaging the leaders of the two communities, so that normalcy could be restored in Kishtwar town, added the sources. They stressed that the team would also overlook compensation assessment work being done by the officials of revenue department. Sources disclosed that the team would be taken around the entire district and shown the places where loot and arson took place on August 9. Following this, sources further said that the team would begin talks with the delegations of both the communities. It needs to be mentioned here that large scale violence took place in Kishtwar on the auspicious occasion of Eid, resulting in loss of 3 precious lives and injuries to several others. A total of 65 shops and houses were burnt down by the violent mobs from both the communities within a time span of 7 hours. Several shops were looted and then, set on fire by the rampaging mobs in Kishtwar town. Army had to be called in. Curfew was clamped and the town was handed over to the Army. Since then, the town and its adjoining areas are under curfew. Though some relaxation was given on August 15 but by and large, the entire town has remained under curfew. Deputy Commission and SSP were shifted out within hours of the incident while Minister of State (MOS) Home Sajjad Kitchloo resigned four days after the incident.
