Sakina celebrates Republic day on August 15! Ignorance at its worst 8/17/2013 2:07:55 AM Saahil Suhail KULGAM, Aug 16: The Social Welfare Minister, Sakina Itoo in her Independence Day speech at Kulgam yesterday showed how casual and ignorant politicians can be. After unfurling the tricolor in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, she started her speech by saying "today we are celebrating Republic day." The gathering which mostly comprised of Government officials felt embarrassed. Itoo perhaps read from her 2013 Republic Day speech. Most probably she could not find a person to write a speech for her. Video footage available with Early Times shows Itoo committing the blunder. The `faux paus' did not end here. She went ahead to congratulate the people of Jammu Kashmir while failing to mention the great personalities that fought for freedom. The `erring Minister' praised Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah without mentioning what role he had played in India's freedom struggle. She also praised Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah Without naming any great personality who fought for the freedom of Nation she after these two lines picked up achievement card of Omar's Government and started showering praises on Sheikh Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah and mentioned all the schemes and programs of the Government and claimed that Government had achieved success in developing the state up to 85% mark.
