Gujarat riots, 2010 killing did not shake Omar's conscience | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that he wanted to resign from the NDA Government following Gujarat riots but was persuaded by Vajpayee to stay back. The statement has been taken with a pinch of salt across the state and perceived as an election stunt. "When you want to shoot, shoot don't talk," the dialogue was used in a Hollywood movie way back in early 80s. The wisdom in the dialogue was appreciated by West Indian player Chris Gayle in response to a racial comment by an Australian player. The West Indies thrashed Australia. Similarly, Omar should have resigned if he felt like pulling out. Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz voted against the party whip and pulled down the Government. He was ousted from National Conference; a party which he served for so many years but he did what he thought was good. Another NC leader from Ganderbal recently resigned. Nobody took him to task. Omar also considered stepping down during the 2010 agitation but his father advised him to stay glued to the chair. He did not listen to his conscience on both the occasions thus making clear that power was more precious and important to him than anything else. The people have not sought any explanation from him. His arch rivals in politics are raising the issue time and again. The indifference of the people must be pinching him somewhere! |
