Rank and file blames leadership of apathy, shortsightedness
NC cadre a disgruntled, discouraged, demoralized lot

JAMMU, Mar 4: Once counting on the strength and reach of its cadre across the regions of the state, the National Conference especially in Jammu has left its cadre disgruntled, directionless and discouraged. Many who have remained loyal to the party since ages are blaming the leadership and its policies for the apparent doom.
"It is strange that despite being in power for the last six years, NC lost substantial work force especially in Jammu while its coalition partner Congress instituted an elected youth leadership that gave strength and cohesion to its cadre," said a party functionary. "Generally many new faces join a political party while it is in power, but on the contrary, NC not only failed to invite fresh recruits, it lost seasoned and tested loyalists during its tenure in Government," he added.
"The Youth National Conference that was a force to reckon with has lost its face and relevance due to perpetual apathy of the senior leadership," said a former office bearer of the youth wing of the party. Raising a direct finger on the provincial leadership, he said, "The provincial president is so insecure that he is busy conspiring to keep everybody else away from Omar Abdullah". While many who count in the provincial unit of the party prefer to stay tight lipped, those who have been marginalized systematically divulge that there have been deliberated attempts not to allow anyone acquire any position of eminence within the party or gain direct access to the Chief Minister bypassing the provincial president Devender Rana.
Sources in the party opine that the planned erosion of the party cadre would cost the party dearly in the Assembly elections. "With NC leaving both the Parliamentary seats of Jammu for its ally Congress, whatever little cadre it has, has been asked to campaign for the Congress candidates, which has demoralized it and the party shall have to repent in the Assembly elections which shall be held just a couple of months after the Parliamentary elections," said an office bearer of the party. "It is a win situation for Congress in both Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections as its cadre and the youth wing is motivated and well oiled ahead of crucial Assembly elections and NC shall be left with no option but to repent for the neglect and desertion of its cadre that was once its mainstay.
