Blame it on Tourism deptt: Tourists up for huge disappointment this holiday season | | | Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, Apr 4: The Tourism Department is ill prepared to host the tourists that are expected to rush to the state with the start of holiday season. Not only has it failed explore new tourist destinations, it has miserably failed to meet deadline of renovation work of places of great tourist interest. Tourism is being considered as the backbone of Jammu & Kashmir economy. A lot of tourists, foreign as well as domestic, spend a lot during their stay in the state but in return no convincing service is provided to them. Some of the tourists leave the state on a gloomy note. "The Mughal gardens are the prime attraction for the tourists visiting our state. The world famous Dal Lake is also adjacent to these gardens. But the gardens as well as the Dal Lake are losing their glory on account of the ill attitude of the tourism department. The department is not serious in discharging their responsibilities," said Rauf Ahmad, a tourism player. It is for the last two years or so that the famous Shalimar garden, the best among the Mughal Gardens in the state is out of bounds for the tourists on account of repairs that are going at a snail's pace. "The scenes of destruction in Shalimar garden are for sure to keep the tourists away. How did the government manage to prepare the garden for the concert by internationally renowned, Zubin Mehta? This is simply disgusting,'' said Mushtaq Ahmad, a shopkeeper near the garden. The tourist spots of our state lack in cleanliness with polythene bags and other such things littered around. A visiting person finds the conditions at these spots very displeasing. They get fed up and never visit again. "The tourist spots have nothing to offer to the children. Their wishes have not been taken into consideration. They get bored at these spots. Why aren't there any amusement parks for the pleasure of the children? Some kind of consideration must have been given to these little ones," said Yogesh, a tourist from Maharashtra. The tourism players opine that Tourism department hasn't been able to promote world class tourism here. Every foreigner who visits our state to enjoy the nature's splendor complains of low standard facilities being provided to them. The facilities aren't at par with international standard. "Jammu and Kashmir will never be place of choice for the tourists unless it is given a facelift in every field of life. The state must have facility of international flights, day and night. The road connectivity must be improved. Smoke producing vehicles must not be allowed to only on the roads, the problem of frequent traffic jams should be overcome. Cleanliness should be maintained on daily basis," said tourism players. |
