Existing managing committee of Kashmiri Hindu shrines averse to their democratization | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 4: Various Kashmiri Pandit organizations have accused political parties of sabotaging the Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill during the last budget session of the State legislature, the fact is that the individuals and groups presently managing these shrines are reluctant to democratize their administration and management. According to sources, managing committees of many income generating shrines of KPs in Valley are not ready to leave and have taken the matter to court of law instead of allowing the new bodies to take over or conduct elections in a democratic manner. Sources said that large number of shrines and temple management committees are in wrangles and to maintain their monopoly on the affairs of the shrines they have not allowed other members of the committees to interfere in their functioning. Sources said some shrines managing committees even have openly come against the Shrine Bill as well. The prominent among them included Martand Tirath Trust, Swami Lakshman Joo Ashram Trust Ishber etc. There is such mess in these managing committees that many of them are involved in court cases for years together challenging the membership of other community members while many are involved in misappropriation of funds by not maintaining the proper accounts etc. Sources said total mess prevails in some of these shrines which have assets worth hundreds of crores of rupees after the management allowed giving the property including shops and buildings on lease for decades together on cheap rates thereby putting the community to a heavy loss. Even at various places some non State subject people who have been given the shrine property on rent are not ready to vacate the same and have challenged the eviction decision of management in court of law. The irony is such that the management committee once elected does not want to leave the control and to maintain their control continuously they don't hesitate in moving the court of law, sources said, adding this step by the committees has also generated a lot of resentment among the community. This sorry state of affairs has allowed the anti social elements and mafia groups to grab the shrines land and property at various places and in some cases the members of the managing committees are also involved in the hobnobbing with these mafia groups. |
