Kashmir doctors to observe strike today | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 4: The doctors of Kashmir have decided to observe a token one-hour strike on April 5 to protest the 'assault and harassment of health professionals' of a district hospital in Kupwara district. The Joint Amalgam of Doctors and Paramedical Associations, Kashmir said around 8 pm a case of road accident was brought dead by the police to the hospital in Handwara for legal formalities and post mortem. The police were accompanied by a huge mob, the group said. "Miscreants from the mob thrashed the mortuary staff of the hospital. Later they went inside the hospital wherein they manhandled the hospital staff and there was a huge destruction to the infrastructure of the hospital especially the causality section," the group said. "Seeing the violent mob entering the hospital the staff on night duty tried to flee from the rooms to save their lives. Even some policemen also got injured during the event," it said. The group said 'though we have sympathy with the family of deceased but we condemn the beastly act in strongest possible words'. "It was a case of a person who was brought dead and had to undergo post mortem. We in no way feel that there was a flaw on the part of hospital staff but still the mob went berserk and created a havoc which has traumatized the staff mentally," the group noted. |
