Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 16: A today an intercollegiate Abhishek Memorial Annual Sports Meet organised by Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions, Gurha Brahmana (Patoli), Akhnoor Road, Jammu at YCET sports ground, gets underway scheduled April16th to 17th, 2014 The event started with National Anthem followed by flag march by students of various sports events with great enthusiasm and zeal. A group of 278 students from different streams of colleges of Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions including Tawi Engineering College and Tawi Polytechnic at Shahpur Kandi, Pathankot, Punjab, apart from Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Management Sciences, National College of Education, Institute of Engineering and Computer Sciences and North Polytechnic, Jammu participated in various sports events in Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Kho Kho, Chess, Carom, Athletics, Kabaddi, Rangoli and tug of War. Pervaiz Ahmed Malik-IAS, Secretary to Govt. Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports Department was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The traditional lamp was lit by the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries and meet was declared open. Er. Vidhi S. Singh, Chairman, presented welcome address and in his inaugural welcome address conveyed his gratitude and sincere thanks to the Chief Guest, Special Guest and other dignitaries. In his message, he conveyed this as a feature with JGEI to hold such sports activities as a continuous process, in order to encourage students to develop their overall personality apart from academics. Pervaiz Ahmed Malik, in his address, appreciated the initiative taken by Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions (JGEI) in the field of sports and organizing such a mega event involving inter-institutions to participate by reflecting their physical and mental enthusiastic zeal in the play ground. He showed keen interest in all the events including other activities displaying food and game stalls. Prof. Desh Bandhu Gupta - Director, Colleges Development Council, University of Jammu, was the Special Guest on the occasion. In his address, it just reminded him of his good old sport days, where he recollected an event, when he being an outstanding batsman got out for a zero on a Yorker ball and again as a great wicket-keeper missed an easy catch with gloves. He advised students to be competitive in any field of life with full commitment and team spirit. Other eminent dignitaries were N.H. Malik, Secretary, State Board of Technical Education, Mohd Shafi Bhat, Joint Director, Directorate of Technical Education and Er. Jeetander Kesar, Registrar- SBOTE as Guest of Honor. Others who graced the occasion were Er. Neetu Maini - Principal, Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Th. Shiv Dev Singh Jamwal-Vice Chairman, JGEI & Er. Renu Bangroo, Managing Director, JGEI. Prominent luminaries present among others were Prof. J.R. Dhotra, Director, IMS, Prof. B.L Sharma, Director, YCET, Prof. K.G. Gupta, Principal, IECS, Prof. K.R. Sharma, Principal, North Polytechnic, Er. BR. Verma, Dean Academic, YCET, Er. C.L. Bangroo, Project Engineer, JGEI, Er. Ajay Singh Jamwal - Dean Administration, IECS, Prof. B.R. Moza, OSD & COL. Hari Singh, Administrative Officer from Tawi Technical Campus. The entire programme was organized by Er. Rajnish Magotra & Er. Dinesh Gupta.
