Non-BJP leaders target Modi for ulterior reasons | | | It is not the BJP but its prime ministeri al candidate, Narendra Modi, who is targeted right from the Congress leaders to all those whose influence counts in a state or some constituencies. In fact Modi is the fulcrum on which various political leaders keep on dancing. Whether it is Sonia Gandhi or her son, Rahul Gandhi, or her daughter, Priyanka, all of them utilize their pre-poll campaign on berating Modi. Some call him communal, others call him divisive, yet others call his Gujarat model of development as false. Of late Rahul Gandhi has coined a new phrase while describing Gujarat model saying that it is a toffee model. And Modi hit back so hard that it would give Rahul Gandhi some sleepless nights. Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi for d2ubbing Gujarat development model as a 'toffee model', Narendra Modi compared the Congress vice president with children and said the word 'toffee' has caught his fancy after he repeatedly spoke about 'balloon'. He has said he thought serious issues would be discussed in this election and the galaxy of BJP leaders, including Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Yashwant Sinha, Arun Jaitley and Murli Manohar Joshi were speaking on various subjects. But on the other side, there is a player whose mind doesn't move away from childishness. Such an important election about the country's future but for ten days, a word that gripped him was 'balloon'. For ten days he kept repeating it. However, children don't stick to a toy for too long and now he has caught the word toffee. The West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo,Mamta Banerjee, too has targeted Modi saying that for Modi becoming Prime Minister is a "fantasy". Having run short of ideas to expose the Gujarat model of development Banerjee simply dismissed any comparison between West Bengal and Gujarat saying that while Gujarat is a rich, privileged child her state is undernourished and neglected one. Even political leaders who have least chance for becoming Prime Minister that include, Mayawati, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Nitish Kumar, Sharad Yadav, Naveen Patnaik and others miss hardly any chance or day for Modi bashing. In fact these leaders have launched so vicious a campaign against Modi as if he was the symbol of all political and economic ills.To Mayawati Modi's elevation to Prime Minister would be disastrous for India. How ? she has not bothered to explain. While Farooq Abdullah's anti-Modi tirade is the result of his eagerness to retain power for National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, the story is different for Nitish, Mulayam, Lalu, Mayawati and others. Each one of them want to cultivate Muslim vote bank and keep it in tact. They want that Modi should not help BJP in securing votes from Muslims and Dalits. That is the reason for Mayawati to fulminate against Modi. That is the reason for the Congress leadership to reopen the Gujarat riots issue after 13 years because it wants to polarize the situation so that it can cash on the support from muslim voters. Yes,these non-BJP or non-NDA leaders have a feeling that Modi wave has not only lashed various parts of India but it has caught imagination of those voters who have been traditionally fence sitters. Hence these non-BJP leaders believe that the only way to blunt the impact of the wave they have to paint Modi in black colours. And Modi seems to have infused new life to the BJP and that is why Modi's marital status had become a breezy issue. Well these non-BJP leaders perhaps are oblivious of the fact that the more they cry against Modi the more powerful may become the Modi wave. |
