Woollen clothes out again in Kashmir as chill revisits due to rain | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 17: Woolen clothes are again out in the Kashmir valley, where cold wave condition intensified due to light to moderate rain during the past 24 hours though the minimum temperature witnessed improvement though it was still below normal. Gulmarg in Kashmir and border town of Kargil in Ladakh had lowest temperature of 0.0 degree celsius minimum temperature. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over the state during the next 24 hours. There would be increase in precipitation during subsequent two days, he said and warned that rain or thundershowers accompanied by moderate thunder squalls at a few places over Jammu division till April 19. Almost entire Kashmir valley experienced rain during the past 24 hours resulting in drop in the maximum temperature, forcing people to wear woolen and warm clothes. However, there was some improvement in the night temperature due to cloudy sky. The sky was cloudy with rain and sun playing hide and seek today in the valley. Normal life was again affected today in Srinagar due to rain. About 3.3 mm rainfall was recorded in the city during the past 24 hours till 0800 hrs and intermittent rain continued. The maximum temperature yesterday was six degree below normal, he said, adding it will remain below normal today also. However, there was some improvement in the minimum temperature as against yesterday's 7.2 degree, it was 7.8 degree, slightly below normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures would remain below normal. Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, a major tourist attraction, was coldest in the valley as the minimum temperature was recorded 0.0 degree, two notches below normal. Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south Kashmir recorded 3.4 degree after 5 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours. Qazigund recorded 5.8 degree, a notch below normal while Kokernag 5.9 degree and Kupwara 6.4 degree, a degree below normal after recording 13.9 mm rainfall. Kargil recorded 0.0 degree minimum temperature against minus 1.8 degree witnessed yesterday while at Leh it was 0.8 degree against yesterday's minus 1.8 degree. He said light rain or snow would occur at Leh and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 9 degree and 00 degree respectively tomorrow. |
